The Small Stack

Filed under: Fun Things, Gambling World, Life Of Games — November 2, 2009 @ 10:51 am

As the small stack, it’s apparent to your online poker opponents that you are running out of options. Things haven’t gone your way, you’re in danger of getting knocked out, and your opponents are eyeing you for signs of tilting. When you see that your stack is getting low, it’s time to start taking some risks.

Once they recognize that they’re in trouble, many poker players will lock down their chip stack and wait for a great pocket hand to come along before they’ll play anything. This is a great way to blind out-you can’t rely on the cards to save you at this point, and even if you did get good cards, there’s no guarantee that you’ll win the hand-there’s always a chance that your opponents will outdraw you.

The key is to take some risks as soon as you see that you’re in trouble. If you take action while your stack is still somewhat intimidating, you’ll be able to buy up some blinds and give yourself a bit more time to get some decent cards. Hopefully, by the time you make a hand, your opponents will put you on a bluff and double you up, taking you up out of small stack status. Keep this in mind when you play poker online.
