A Bit of Advice re Safety Regulations

It’s thought in numerous companies that, by giving each member of staff some training in workplace safety, they have all the experience they need to prevent a catastrophe. The reality is that, irrespective your industry, a basic education in health and safety legislation and risk asessment just isn’t enough. Equipping employees, selecting good supervision and organising regular practise are all essential factors. A supervisor has an even bigger purpose to play than simply general supervision. A supervisor needs to have great people skills and think that training is great.

On top of checking compliance with health and safety regulations, the supervisor as well should ensure that employees perform every task to the highest standard. Of course it isn’t easy to do all this at once. A skilled supervisor must possess a thorough understanding of both the industry and manufacturing procedures as well as a high level of understanding of the safety legislation, the identification of risks, and emergency assistance techniques.

It’s just not enough to only send your staff to a health and safety training program. They have to practise risk assessment and the identification of hazards. Employees must understand the best way of eliminating hazards not to mention how best to cope if disaster strikes. Not until these processes become habitual are employees completely protected. Safety equipment is every bit as critical to the your staff’s safety as training. When they don’t possess the correct apparatus or should they find that equipment is damaged in a crisis, the training your staff have undergone is basically of no benefit.

Maintaining your equipment on a regular basis is crucial. If an item is in less than perfect condition, make sure it is fixed or call out a maintenance engineer as a matter of urgency. Your staff have to receive the right health & safety training, however they also require good quality equipment, regular practise excercises, and an experienced supervisor who gets the workforce to feel enthusiastic about working safely. If you take this advice you should find health and safety legislation will before long become ingrained in the culture of your business instead of something everyone has to attempt to think about constantly.
