So, here we gather at the water cooler for yet another time today. But, the question on everyone’s lips is what will be on the cards for discussion? Will it be some political commentary? Will it be a discussion revolving around foreign affairs, or climate change perhaps? No, we descended to the lowest of the low, the dregs of thoughtful and considered debate, the Paris Hilton of discussion topics, Celebrity. Why are we so brain chatteringly obsessed with celebrity? The truth of the mater is, that our fixation has gone beyond obsession, celebville is part and parcel of our everyday lives, these hyper-real figurines come with us into our living rooms and bedrooms, blasted out from our television sets, in every home, in every part of the world. We can no longer identify ourselves except in relation to certain celebrities. Am I too fat? Just look to Jennifer or Angelina and find your answer. Do I have enough children? Do I earn enough? Am I ‘cool’ enough? Again, the answer lies in our television sets and on magazine covers. So who’s under the radar today at the water cooler? It’s none other than Cheryl Cole and her devestation at husband Ashley’s recent escapades. Do we feel sorry for her? The woman that earns more in a week than the rest of us do in a year, who has a perfect figure and skin tone, and who is heralded as a national treasure of sorts. Not likely.
