Holidays for the Eco Minded Holiday Maker

Filed under: Lifestyle Center, Universe Of Travel — December 24, 2008 @ 5:42 am

Many skiers will shortly be searching for their ski equipment and shooting away trying to find the largest snow conditions.

And doubtless the results from our carbon footprint will be roughly as far down the list of holiday to dos as a turkey sandwich after the Christmas holidays.

Only last winter, a tardy snowfall was in the tabloids and holidaymakers were panic stricken about the smattering of snow dissolving nearly as soon as they settled.

Holiday business Chalet1802, located at the base of Mont Blanc in Chamonix the French Alps, is one of the first independent firms to go carbon negative and provide skiers an environmentally friendly choice whilst booking their skiing holidays.

Chalet1802 owner Tentagil said: Last winter was quite a shock with the most warm wintertime in 50 yrs in France. Famous ski fields for example Luz Ardiden, Super Besse and Les Grands Montets suffered. It was temperate and the snow did not settle so a lot of the early skiing season in the French Alps was limited. We decided to become carbon neutral to help preserve the skiing resort.

Tentagil said: We’re not attempting to prescribe to holiday makers only I consider its all important to afford the clients the option without raising the price of the ski holiday. If the client book with us they can further off-set their carbon output and we absorb the added costs. Of course we still have a sauna and a hot tub - customers wish for opulence but not at the expense of the alps mountains, so we viewed methods of decreasing the affect of a skier driving over here for a winter holiday.”
